Each year Port Sorell SLSC recognises the efforts, successes and contributions of our members over the season, culminating in our annual awards night.

Several awards are presented each year, which are aligned with our club values.

Awards Night

Our Annual Awards night and Celebration Dinner is an opportunity for our members, sponsors and community to come together at the club to reflect on, and celebrate, the prior season.

Our 2021/22 Awards Night will be held at the club at 6pm on Saturday 7th May 2021 with delicious food from Tranquilles.  Cost between $30 per person paid on the night.

Port Sorell SLSC Awards

Our annual awards provide an opportunity to recognise members that have provided a significant contribution to the success and administration of the club over the season.

Nomination Process

Port Sorell SLSC members can nominate fellow members for the annual awards.  Nominations are then considered by the committee before the winners are announced at the Awards Night.

All members are invited to make nomination(s) for each of the award categories via the Nomination Form below.

Nominations must be submitted via the online form below, and close at 7pm on Saturday 23rd April 2022.

This award recognises and rewards members who have made an outstanding contribution to the delivery and development of surf lifesaving frontline services. It is aimed at active surf lifesavers undertaking lifesaving duties and who can be presented as an identifiable “Ambassador” for surf lifesaving. Their commitment to lifesaving duties is representative of our club values: be responsible, be respectful, embrace opportunities, give your best effort and be supportive.

Essential to consider

  1. Surf Life Saving Australia Awards/Certificates Held
  2. Community Awards/Certificates held
  3. Patrolling Hours (rostered and achieved) for past season or past 2 seasons if relevant.
  4. Contribution to SLS services beyond the club.

This award aligns with the Surf Life Saving Tasmania award and the winner of our club award will be interviewed by SLST.

An interview will be conducted with the State finalists on knowledge of Surf Life Saving Australia and the organisation including areas such as:

▪ Patrolling duties and Rescue related activities

▪ Club/branch/state activities related to lifesaving services

▪ Personal award development and Community involvement in lifesaving related activities (e.g. surf education)

▪ Activities specific to the further enhancement and development of surf lifesaving services

The Volunteer of the Year award recognises an individual who has demonstrated achievements in a range of different areas of a club or surf lifesaving service organisation throughout the year, or who has shown significant and outstanding achievements in one particular area. The individual’s contribution demonstrably enhances the development of surf lifesaving.

Their commitment to volunteering within club is representative of our club values: be supportive, be responsible, be respectful, embrace opportunities, and give your best effort.

A nominee may be a volunteer in any area of surf lifesaving including but not limited to:

▪ Club activities   ▪ Carnivals   ▪ Coaching   ▪ Administrating

▪ Junior Activities    ▪ State Activities   ▪ Branch Activities

▪ Training/Assessing   ▪ Scrutineering ▪ Active patrolling

▪ Officiating

Note: In relation to nominees for SLST Award of Excellence –Applications that focus on significant achievements in one particular area will not be considered if this area is also covered by other awards.eg lifesaver, assessing etc

This member will embrace opportunities made available to them…

Essential to consider

  1. Surf Life Saving Australia Awards/Certificates Held
  2. Community Awards/Certificates held
  3. Patrolling Hours (rostered and achieved) for past season or past 2 seasons if relevant.
  4. Participation in life saving championships
  5. Active role during regular and additional patrols
  6. Contribution to other aspects of club activity at Port Sorell eg work with nippers, assistance at events

The following may be used to consider our club winner of this award. These criteria are judged against when SLST choose their state winner of Athlete of the Year . Although only a club award these criteria provide useful guidelines.

The purpose of this award is to recognise and reward athletes who have demonstrated sporting excellence as well as contributed to the area of surf sports within surf lifesaving.

Essential Criteria

  1. Must be an SLSA member
  2. The nominated athlete will be one who has demonstrated a significant commitment in their chosen discipline in surf sport/s (at our club level this may be read as consistently strong achievements, striving for excellence by giving their best effort and demonstrating commitment to training)
  3. The nominated athletes will be athletes who are good ambassadors of SLSA and PSSLSC by embracing our club values!!!
  4. The athlete will generally be in the 15- Open age category
  5. Additional achievements and contributions that add to the athlete’s value as a club member should be considered.

The following may be used to consider our club winner of this award.:

Essential Criteria

  1. Must be an SLSA member
  2. The nominated athlete will be one who has demonstrated a significant commitment in their chosen discipline in surf sport/s (at our club level this may be read as consistently strong achievements, striving for excellence by giving their best effort and demonstrating commitment to training)
  3. The nominated athlete will be good club ambassadors within the Surf Sports movement and our local surf club community by embracing the club values.
  4. The nominated athlete will be supportive and contribute to the skill development of younger athletes.

This award recognises an individual or a group within the club for their outstanding work in a one-off event, or over time. It can relate to any area of club life.

They embrace opportunities and give their best.

Past winners have included, but not limited to…

  • An individual patrol member for a rescue outside of patrol hours
  • A patrol team for a significant rescue/patrol event
  • A members’ individual effort in one surf race against the odds
  • Individual competitor at Aussies/Coolangatta Gold
  • A members contribution to the success of the fiesta

The President of the Port Sorell SLSC may choose to award The President’s Award to a club member who has made an exceptional contribution to the club during the current year or over their period of membership.

The award recognises exceptional service to the club and to surf lifesaving and is not automatically awarded each season.  The award is presented at the sole discretion of the President.

*Club members are not able to make nominations for this award.

The Surf Sports Manager and club coaches may choose to award The Coaches’ Cadet Award to a cadet member who has demonstrated a significant commitment in their chosen discipline in surf sport/s (at our club level this may be read as consistently strong achievements, striving for excellence by giving their best effort and demonstrating commitment to training)

  1. The nominated athletes will be athletes who are good ambassadors of SLSA and PSSLSC who embrace our club values.
  2. Nominees must be Cadet Members of PSSLSC who hold the SLSA Surf Rescue Certificate or higher award.
  3. Additional achievements and contributions that add to the athlete’s value as a club member should be considered.

 

The award recognises exceptional commitment to surf sport at PSSLSC and might not be awarded each season.  The award is presented on the recommendation of the PSSLSC Life Saving Trainer and at the discretion of the committee.
