Nippers

5 – 13 Years

Nippers is a great way for children to enjoy the beach in a safe environment.

Weekly activities for each age group are led by trained Age Managers to deliver the Surf Life Saving Australia Junior Development Program. The age-specific program covers a diverse range of skills from body surfing, catching waves on a board, beach sprints and flags, first aid, CPR (for older age groups) and the surf environment.

The program also introduces the competitive side of Surf Life Saving, at a series of carnivals held throughout the season. This promotes fellowship, fair play and enjoyment while learning very valuable lifelong water and surf skills.

Cadets

13–15 years

The Cadet program encourages more active engagement in the surf club.

Training is provided for the Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC), so cadets can participate in rostered patrols and senior surf sport carnivals. At age 15, Cadets may train for the Bronze Medallion (note some of the units can contribute towards the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) points) and participate in the statewide Development Camps that offers opportunities to apply their first aid knowledge and develop leadership skills.

Seniors

15 years+ with an SRC or Bronze Medallion Award

Senior members can participate in Surf Lifesaving Patrols with the option of engaging with surf sport competitions.

The training focuses on developing relationships with club members and improving fitness and surf skills. Through the off-season some members regularly swim or practice their surf sports skills.
